Among
other speakers at its closing session, World Congress of Families IV heard from
Cardinal Alfonso López Trujillo, head of the Pontifical Council on the Family,
and Margarita Zavala Gomez Del Campo, First Lady of Mexico.
Because
he was called back to Rome the Cardinal's remarks were delivered by Father
Grzegorz Kaszak.
Cardinal
López Trujillo noted, "The vocation of marriage is written in the very
nature of man and woman." In comments particularly relevant to
Poland, the Cardinal observed, "The history of the 20th Century
demonstrates that those citizens were right who recognized the falsehood of
relativism."
The
letter from Mexico's First Lady observed, "Today, more than ever before
throughout the world there is a need to think of the family, because when you
protect the family, you are protecting society and the nation."
The
First Lady continued: "The topic of protecting the family transcends all
because it is in family where we learn the fundamental moral values needed in
today's world – solidarity, respect, responsibility, love and
forgiveness."
Among
other expressions of support, the Congress received a declaration from The
Nordic Committee for Human Rights for the Protection of Family Rights in the
Nordic Countries which extended "our wishes for all a very successful
Congress for the protection of the families of the world. We thank you
all for the work you are doing."
World
Congress of Families International Secretary Allan Carlson responded: "We
are delighted that we were able to come to Poland to show solidarity with the
people of Europe who are defending the natural family. We look to future
Congresses where we can build on the success of Warsaw."
In
the final hours of the Congress, delegates adopted The Warsaw Declaration of
The World Congress of Families IV. A release on this will follow.
