This message originated from Tony Coe, President, EQUAL PARENTING COUNCIL "Children need BOTH Parents!" www.EqualParenting.org Affiliated to Children's Rights Council of USA.

It is with deep regret that we must inform you that Richard Gardner passed away suddenly this last Sunday (May 25, 2003).

Richard was a great man. He coined the term "Parental Alienation Syndrome" and has been a wonderful support to so many non-resident parents wrongly shut out of their children’s lives.

He came to the UK at his own expense at the invitation of EQUAL PARENTING COUNCIL in order to help us persuade Government and the Judiciary to recognize this all too common dynamic that destroys the natural bond between children and their parents after divorce and separation. He spoke powerfully, persuasively and always with good humour. I had the privilege of accompanying him to meetings and media interviews. What an impressive guy!

He will be sadly missed as a professional and as a friend.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, May 28 in Hackensack, New Jersey, USA.

The Swedish forensic psychologist, Lena Hellblom Sjögren, PhD, has expanded Richard Gardner's PAS to include children who have been forcibly taken into care by the social authorities and placed in foster homes. In many cases, these children are exposed to a denigration campaign against their mothers and fathers and other relatives both by the social workers and the foster parents. After a few years the children develop PAS. Making a parent dangerous. PAS in Sweden and Norway. By Lena Hellblom Sjögren and the following articles in Swedish can be found on the Nordic Committee's web site: Farliggörande av föräldrar.
