M'sian couple in Sweden to be charged tomorrow

KUALA LUMPUR (Feb 9, 2014): The Malaysian couple held on remand in Sweden to facilitate investigations into an incident where their son's hands were allegedly hit, is expected to be charged in a Stockholm district court tomorrow (Feb 10).
Kristofer Stahre, counsel for Shalwati Nurshal, the children's mother, said the prosecutor, Anna Arnelle had told him that she would bring charges against the couple on Feb 10.
"If the prosecutor brings charges, she (Anna) will most probably bring charges against both parents.
"The charges will become official on Feb 10, at 11:00 am (6pm Malaysian time)) and you (media) can confirm the matter by calling the district court or the prosecutor's office," he told Bernama via e-mail today.
Stahre said his client would contest the charge.

Relatives almost gave up trying to bring siblings home from Sweden

KOTA BARU (Feb 2, 2014): Relatives of the four siblings whose parents are in custody in Sweden have admitted they almost gave up trying to bring the children back to Malaysia.
Their uncle, Badrul Hisham Makhzan, 55, said he had gone to Sweden on Dec 31 in an attempt to see the children's parents, Azizul Raheem Awalludin and Shalwati Norshal, but failed due to that country's strict regulations and ongoing investigations.
"I then went to the Malaysian Embassy in Sweden where an officer explained the country's legal process and asked me to be patient. I also contacted Deputy Foreign Minister Datuk Hamzah Zainuddin for help.
"After that visit, I almost gave up and was disappointed when there was no communication between our family and Wisma Putra," he said when met at the family home in Kampung Wakaf Tok Wali, Peringat here today.

Welfare Dept will adhere to conditions imposed by Sweden: Rohani

KUCHING (Feb 1, 2014): The Malaysian Welfare Services Department (JKM) will ensure that three conditions imposed by the Swedish authorities under the Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC), which enabled three children of a Malaysian couple detained in Sweden to return home, are observed.
The conditions, imposed by the Swedish Welfare Services Department, are in line with Article three and Article 20 of the CRC.

STOCKHOLM (Jan 26, 2014): Family representatives of the Malaysian couple detained by Swedish authorities for hitting their son's hand for not praying have requested for a certificate of good conduct to enable them to meet the couple's four children here.
Umno Youth Community Complaints Bureau chairman, Sheikh Nafiq Alfirdaous said the couple's relatives had applied for the certificate from Wisma Putra which was then approved by the Inspector-General of Police before the document was referred to the lawyer representing the children.
